The Ministry of Environment & Forests, Government of India launched programme called National Green Corps in 2001-02. The main objectives of this programme are that the Environmental Education and Awareness at the school level by conducting programmes like, rally, padayatra, cleanliness drive, gardening, raising of nursery, seed bank, making puppet from waste polythene, etc. In the initial year there are 3000 eco-clubs have been formed in the state@ 100 eco-clubs in each district.

Number of eco-club increased from 3000 to 4500 in the year 2003-04 @150 eco-clubs per district. Subsequently number of the eco clubs increases 150 to 250 per district. Then, under the financial budget of 2011-12, additional 2000 ecoclubs have been formed with financial... More info...

Centre for Environmental Studies (CES) is an autonomous organization under the Department of Forest and Environment, Government of Odisha. CES undertakes activities to promote environmental awareness in the State. CES also take up projects, conduct training programme, building database etc. CES is the Regional Resource Agency(RRA) for the National Environment Awareness Campaign (NEAC) and Nodal Agency for the National Green Corps (NGC). So far 9500 eco-clubs have been formed in the state. It is also an Environmental Information System (ENVIS) Centre on the subject - Status of Environment & Related Issues in Odisha under the ENVIS Programme of the Ministry of Environment and Forests (MoEF), Government of India. CES organizes World Environment Day and coordinates selection of Prakruti Mitra & Prakruti Bandhu every year with the support of Forest & Environment Department, Government of Odisha. More info...
